Candidate Filing and Campaign Information
When and Where to File in 2020:
Due to the current situation and restrictions from COVID-19, we ask candidates, who can, to file their Affidavit of Candidacy via mail or delivery service. Candidates who cannot complete their filing using these options may contact 952-361-1910 to make an appointment.
When filing by mail please make sure to have the Affidavit of Candidacy notarized and include payment for filing. If submitting in person via appointment, DO NOT sign ahead of time.
Please note that this is based on current law. Be aware that the Legislature and/or the Governor may take actions that could affect some of these processes due to the COVID-19 situation.
Candidates for county offices may file beginning May 19 through June 2, 2020 with the Carver County Elections Department, Carver County Government Center, 600 E 4th St, Chaska, MN. Normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on June 2 to accept candidate filings. Candidates for state and judicial offices that live in Carver County may file during this same period of time, either at the county offices or at the offices of the Minnesota Secretary of State, 180 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, St. Paul, MN.
Filing fees are as follows:
• United States Senator: $400
• United States Representative: $300
• Governor, Lt Governor, Attorney General, State Auditor and Secretary of State: $300
• State Representative: $100
• Judicial Officer: $300
• County Commissioner: $50
• Carver County Soil & Water District Supervisor: $20
If filing at the Carver County Elections Department, filing fees may be paid by cash, check or credit card (No American Express).
Candidates for township, city and school district offices will file with their respective local township, city or school district clerk. The filing period for these offices will be July 28 through August 11, 2020.
