Please be Advised - Geese Away Lighting

Post Date:08/03/2017 11:07 AM

The Parks Department is trying a new approach to better control the areas of the park system Canadian geese and gulls frequent the park.  These devices are solar powered strobe lights that flash only during nighttime hours.  The deterrent strategy is based around disrupting the sleep patterns/comfort to the geese in the areas the lights are installed.  We’ve installed protective cages around the lights to keep the device secure as well as ensure safety to users (particularly youth) as they recreate near them.  As many realize geese on/around the beach area quickly create unsanitary and unsightly conditions and could be contributors to water quality issues should they arise.  The lighting system has been installed at both Minnewashta & Baylor Regional Parks along the beach area but also along the swim area in the lake.  Please be mindful of this new equipment as we aim to maintain safe, clean and enjoyable beach facilities.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact our office @ 952-466-5250. Thanks!
