Lake Waconia and Coney Island Construction Updates
Coney Island’s Phase I Development Work started recently. Vegetation removal from planned picnic, group use and trail areas started, consistent with the approved master plan and Phase I Development. This phase of work began the week of June 17 and is expected to near completion mid-July.
While vegetation removal, grading, and construction works occurs, a contracted archeologist will identify and preserve cultural artifacts. One of our project goals is to preserve the island’s history for future generations to understand and appreciate.
Site grading for picnic, group use and trail areas happens July-November 2019.
We continue to ask for the public’s cooperation and patience to stay off Coney Island. Many hazardous conditions exist on the island including hazardous materials, open foundations, debris and dilapidated structures. The island is off-limits to the public, with posted no trespassing signs and fines of up to $1,000 in effect for being in a construction zone.
