Water Management Organization
Welcome to the Water Management page!!
Water resources management is the responsibility of the Carver County Water Management Organization (CCWMO). The CCWMO's tasks include planning, funding regulating, monitoring, and implementation the Water Management Plan, in the following watersheds: Beven's Creek, Carver Creek, East and West Chaska Creek, Pioneer Sarah and the Crow River. Are you in the watershed? Click here to see a map of the CCWMO's boundaries.

Minnesota's lakes and rivers need your help! We are hosting a competition aimed at doing just that!
One threat to Minnesota's lakes and rivers which is increasingly making news headlines is Aquatic Invasive Species (zebra mussels, curly leaf pondweed, Eurasian Milfoil, and more). The presence of AIS changes the ecology of lakes and rivers, decreases native fish populations and harms fisheries, makes beaches unsafe and causes billions of dollars of damage to the public property.

Aquatic Invasive Species are transported by humans. So in order stop the spread of Aquatic invasive species we need to educate and inform the citizens the best way to do that. One of the main practices citizens can adopt is to perform boat inspections before and after entering a water body.
Carver County Water Management Organization is hosting an AIS video contest. The objective is to create a 2-3 minute, clever, entertaining and educational video on aquatic invasive species and demonstrate how to do a boat inspection.
The first place entry is $500, 2nd place is $300. Videos can be submitted via mail to Carver County Government Center or by uploading on YouTube and sending in the link. For complete rules and regulations visit www.co.carver.mn.us/water
Please help us in spreading the word on how to protect our water resources.

Carver & Bevens Creek Turbidity TMDL public meeting with presentation.
Bevens Creek and Carver Creek are impaired for turbidity. Simply speaking, this means that both creeks have too much sediment in them. Excess sediment causes problems with aquatic life; reducing their ability to navigate, find food, and reproduce. In addition, sediment acts as a conveyor for many other contaminants so the more sediment washing into a water body, the more pollutants are also washing in.
A public meeting will be held on 11/29/11 at the Carver Co. Government Center to discuss what this means and how to go about reducing pollutant loads to the creeks. Please click here for more information.
Education
CCWMO offers a wide variety of educational opportunities from school visits, to homeowner workshops, to city council presentations and volunteer opportunities. To learn more about education view CCWMO Educational Needs and Programs or our Education web page. Visit our Volunteer web page for opportunities that link volunteering with education.
CCWMO also partners with a variety of educational programs through the state. To learn more follow the links below.

Stormwater
Stormwater is the leading cause of water pollution in the US today. Thus, managing stormwater is extremely important to the health of our lakes and rivers. Cities that meet certain density and population requirements must have MS4 permits from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans to outline how they will manage stormwater. Links for Stormwater documents are below.

The CCWMO holds a free annual STORMWATER WORKSHOP around Feb/March where contractors, developers, city staff, engineers, local decision makers and more are invited to come learn about the stormwater practices in the CCWMO. The 2012 workshop is March 21st. Click here for more details. Presentations from this year and past years can be found below.

Water Plans
The CCWMO is required to develop a Water Management Plan. The plan is intended to be a ten-year planning document to guide CCWMO activities. You can view the plan for 2010-2020 here 2010-2020 Water Management Plan. In addition, after each year the CCWMO is required to submit an annual report detailing the activities and accomplishments of the past year relating to the Water Management Plan. View the 2011 Annual Report.

Water Quality
Concerned about the health of our lakes and rivers? Visit our Water Quality page for the interactive map with data for each lake and river in our watershed or to view the 2011 Water Quality report. Then visit How you can help!! to see what you can do to protect water and prevent pollution.
Lakes and rivers that are polluted or impaired undergo a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) process to determine the sources of impairment and develop a plan to reduce pollution and improve the water body. Many lakes in the CCWMO boundaries have been listed as impaired and many have TMDL projects underway or completed. Visit our TMDLs page to learn more!!
Wetlands
Carver County is home to many wetlands and the CCWMO is responsible for maintaining those wetlands through the Wetland Conservation Act.
