2006
The ninth annual Metro Children’s Water Festival was held on September 27, 2006, at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. The Festival was designed to provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn about a wide variety of topics related to water and the environment. An example of some of the topics are listed below:
- Stream Creatures (insects that live in streams)
- Fish Prints (make your own print of a fish)
- Soil Percolation (see how soil can clean up water as the water moves down toward aquifers)
- Bubble-ology (Learn about surface tension as you become enveloped by a giant bubble)
- Water! (Learn all about the water cycle)
- Clancy, the amazing mercury sniffing dog (Clancy detects mercury in places it shouldn’t be -- to keep schools and other places safe)
- Water Jeopardy (help your team win with your knowledge about water resources)
- Learning Landscapes (see how land use affects water quality)
- Down the Dirty Drain (learn where stormwater goes)
- Water Matters! Recyclable Roundup
- Backyard Water Recycling (septic systems)
Hundreds of fifth grade students from the seven metropolitan twin cities area counties came to learn about our most precious natural resource: water. The presenters at each learning station worked hard to get their message across to the students.
Congratulations to all those students, teachers and volunteers that gave it their best effort to learn or teach how we can help ensure that we will have enough good quality water in the future.
