2005
The eighth annual Metro Children’s Water Festival was held on September 28, 2005, at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. The Festival was designed to provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn about a wide variety of topics related to water and the environment. An example of some of the topics are listed below:
- Down the Dirty Drain (learn where stormwater goes)
- Water Matters! Recyclable Roundup
- Learning Landscapes - learn about how our activities affect water quality
- Backyard Water Recycling (septic systems)
It was a rainy autumn day when hundreds of fifth grade students from the seven metropolitan twin cities area counties came to learn about our most precious natural resource: water. The presenters at each learning station worked hard to get their message across to the students. Even though most learning stations had to be moved inside because of the rain, most students seemed to have a lot of fun as they learned about water at the festival.
Congratulations to all those students and teachers that gave it their best effort and learned how they can help ensure that we will have enough good quality water in the future.
How big was the 2005 Metro Children’s Water Festival? Students from approximately 45 classrooms from 19 schools in the 7-county Twin Cities metro area attended: about 1152 students. In addition, many teachers, parents and 125 volunteers participated.
