The role of Emergency Management encompasses Emergency Preparedness, including Public Health Emergency Preparedness. Emergency Management includes assisting in the process of planning, organizing and coordinating emergency events within Carver County. This department maintains the Emergency Operations plan, 911 addressing, floodplain management and various emergency response actions. Emergency Management is a federal- and state-mandated department which has been an active part of the emergency response network within Carver County. The department is also involved in the areas of hazard recognition for employees and buildings and AWAIR/OSHA compliance training.

In July 2010, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), at Secretary Janet Napolitano's direction, launched a national "If You See Something, Say Something™" public awareness campaign –a simple and effective program to raise public awareness of indicators of terrorism and violent crime, and to emphasize the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the proper state and local law enforcement authorities. |
